Nintendo Announces Almighty Addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Roster: God Joins the Fight!

Kyoto, Japan - Nintendo Co., Ltd. today announced that the ultimate fighter is joining the battle in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch system. The Almighty One, known simply as "God," will be the latest character to enter the fray, bringing divine power to the fight.

"We're thrilled to welcome God to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster," said Masahiro Sakurai, creator of the beloved fighting series. "Adding an all-powerful, omniscient deity to the game was no small task, but our team has risen to the challenge. God's abilities will undoubtedly shake up the meta and provide a whole new way to play."

God's moveset leverages the character's cosmic might. The neutral special attack, titled "Genesis," conjures an entire universe from nothingness, damaging and launching opponents caught in the blast of creation. Up special "Ascension" allows God to fly infinitely, transcending the stage's boundaries. Down special "Damnation" opens a portal to hell, dragging fighters into the abyss. And the Final Smash "Apocalypse" unleashes unfathomable destruction, wiping the stage clean of all characters.

In addition to the new playable fighter, a heavenly stage titled "Heaven" will be added alongside God. This arena floats high above the clouds, with angelic choirs singing in the background. Challenger packs including God and Heaven will be available for purchase separately, or as part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2.

"We understand this addition may be controversial to some," said Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa. "However, we believe God deserves a place in our ultimate celebration of gaming icons. The Almighty's inclusion boosts the roster to 88 characters - truly living up to the 'Ultimate' moniker. We look forward to seeing fans engage with this exciting new content."

God in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases on June 11th. A presentation from Masahiro Sakurai detailing the character and stage will air June 4th at 6 AM PT. The Almighty has arrived, and the world of Smash will never be the same.
